| If you are arriving by
Air : Until Schönefeld is converted into the new
`BerlinBrandenburg International' airport and becomes the
city's main airhub, three airports operate in Berlin, Germany:
Schönefeld (SXF), Tegel (TXL) and Tempelhof (THF) . Berlin
Schönefeld airport (code SXF), is located 18 kms from the city
centre, to the south-east of Berlin, it has flights to/from
Europe, Israel and North Africa, including Ryanair, Germanwings,
Aer Lingus and easyJet services to the UK and the Netherlands.
Tegel (code TXL) also has European focus and is the Air Berlin
hub. Direct Delta Airlines (www.delta.com) services to/from New
York rotate out of here, too. GETTING INTO BERLIN Berlin's public transport system is excellent and much better than driving around the city. There are two principal ways of getting to the Berlin city centre from Schönefeld airport. 1- The S9 train which takes 45 minutes and travels through all the major downtown stations on its way to Friedrichstrasse. Faster Airport Express' trains (mainly RE4, RE5) travel the same route, also each 30min., taking 15 minutes to Ostbahnhof, 21 minutes to Alexanderplatz and 31 minutes to the Hauptbahnhof. Departure: from platforms 3 or 4 at Berlin
Schönefeld Flughafen Station. The airport station is 400m from
the terminal, linked by covered walkway. A taxi costs up to €35,
€ 25 euros to AlexanderPlatz and € 30 euros to Kurfürstendamm.
